An Unexpected Question About HDPE Liner Specs

It was 9:40 on a Tuesday morning when the contractor asked me a question I wasn't fully prepared to answer. He was pointing at our spec sheet, at the line that said, "primary containment liner: Solmax HDPE liner, 1.5mm." He'd been installing geosynthetics for over twenty years, and he wanted to know why we named a specific brand instead of just listing the material thickness and letting procurement pick whoever met the numbers.
